Power of Agreement

"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" Amos 3:3 KJV

I'm going to start off by sharing a personal conviction, this example is not a salvation issue. Since July of 2024, I have gone without any secular music in my jam sessions. It was very hard at first, I really missed my old songs and playlists, I was "bored" by my worship playlists. I had to break that agreement and threshold that the enemy had over my life.

It affected me in the physical. Mentally I was struggling with anxiety and depression, overthinking every thought and decision I made. I was speaking words of death over my body, not believing that God could personally show up for me as his daughter. Physically, I was fighting to make it through each day because I was so weak for what seemed like no reason at all. I got to a point where I was unintentionally harming myself by pushing my physical and mental limits to places that were too dark. I was holding onto hurt and all the music I was listening to was reinforcing that mindset. I was bound, enslaved, without even realizing the harm I was causing myself.

The Depth of Music | Biblical Significance

Music creates frequencies and each frequency has a different impact on the body. Frequencies can work on a cellular and DNA level.

  • It is believed that 444hz is the frequency that most music was played at in biblical times.

  • Key of David (Revelation 3:7): this is assumed to symbolize authority and the ability to open doors. David is popularly known for his worship, in both music and dance.

  • This frequency is believed to play at a specific level that cultivates healing and release.

God spoke creation into existence (Genesis 1) and from his voice that demanded authority, causing each day of creation to bring life.

  • Words have the power of life and death.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

and those who love it will eat its fruits."

Proverbs 18:21 ESV

  • We are commanded to bridle our tongue.

"If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless."

James 1:26 ESV

  • We are instructed to hear with intention.

"And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Mark 4:9 ESV

  • We are told to make a joyful noise.

"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!"

Psalm 100:1 ESV

These are a few of the many examples for the significance in music/words in scripture. As much as I could say, there is so much more that God himself says through His word!

Application:

As a dancer, I have been surrounded with music, partnering with its tunes and lyrics to communicate a message. I have never been one to listen to explicit or vulger music, but I did go through a season where most of my music was very sad and self-defeating. There was no fruit in the words I sung or the words playing into my ears. They caused me to go against God's command to dwell on "whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Philippians 4:8). It caused withering that God then had to prune.

Unintentionally, I made an agreement with music that was from this world. There was a clear difference between my "fun" music and "Jesus" music. I didn't see the power in the words I was singing, what harm is it really doing?

As believers it's so easy to excuse little things because we have still dedicated our lives to Christ. But why leave any open door for the enemy to walk through? The spiritual realm is too often left at lukewarm or pushed to the side because we ignore it until we can't save ourselves. Before creation, there was the supernatual. In the garden, creation was in-dwelt in the spiritual realm. It wasn't until after the fall that there was separation of the natural and supernatural, that wasn't the original design. We were designed for the supernatural.

It's not about living in fear or idolizing righteousness. It's about being transformed in the image of Christ more each day. It's allowing the Holy Spirit to burn like a fire inside of us and convict us of any ungodliness. Why live for God if you're not going to live full out? The enemy isn't afraid of a lukewarm Christian, in fact, that's where he can distort the character of God the most.

We will either be bound to Christ or to sin. Sin will weigh you down with its heavy chains. Christ will break those chains, lift you into his yoke (Matthew 11:28-30), and carry the weight alongside you. Bondage to Christ is what walking in true freedom looks like (Galatians 5:1).

What are you walking with daily?

Evalaute what you're dedicating your time to, who you're following, listening to, talking to... Is Jesus at the top of that list? I have to do this daily because I fall short of the glory of God constantly. There is always forgiveness after repentance. Don't get comfortable. Be encouraged, Jesus has already claimed the victory. He expectantly awaits for the marriage to his beloved bride (Revelation 19:7-9).

"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."

Galatians 5:16 ESV

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV

"choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin."

Hebrews 11:25 ESV

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

Romans 12:2 ESV

"And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness,"

Acts 4:29 ESV
